Gips have completed the Battrick hattrick: 3 successive FC Premiership crowns … the hard way!
We drew the first fixture, versus a future sell up (who recorded the world best batstats of season in the match against us). We sacrificed three points to beat another future sell up in gameweek three. Subsequently our rivals took full advantage of both sell ups.
Adrift after four games we had to win our next three versus the other two teams in a three horse race, in which we were trailing. Gameweek five was totally epic versus Wombles. (Wibberly Wombles vs Gloucester Gipsies) It could’ve gone either way. We just edged it, keeping us in the race. We went on to win the return leg to turn it in to a two horse race.
We were still 16 points off the top going in to the crunch game versus Firbeck and we lost an important toss (as we had done in the previous game against them). Day one closed with BatWin predicting 95% chance of a draw, effectively crowning Firbeck champions. They closed on 94-1 despite the cloudy skies, after our attacking declaration to try to force a result (282-5) …and the sun was going to come out on day two.
But then … Day two was magic: Everything Gips touched turned gold, and all totally against the conditions. We won, taking 20 points and allowing them just one solitary point. (Firbeck Outlaws II vs Gloucester Gipsies)
Then, as front runners, Gips did their thing: Brought home the silverware!!
